Vote counting is still going on in the 2024 contest for California’s 45th Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Democrat Derek Tran leads Republican Michelle Steel by roughly 102 votes as of 11/18/2024. The final results are anticipated to be certified on 12/13/2024, after 93% of the votes have been counted.
The district has attracted political attention because it includes neighborhoods like Westminster, Garden Grove and Fountain Valley with large Vietnamese American populations. With more than $46 million spent on both campaigns, the race has become one of the most expensive in the country.
