The content of the discussion on February 27 between Russian and American diplomats in Turkey focused on normalizing diplomatic relations between the two countries. The meeting took place at the US consulate in Istanbul, Turkey’s economic capital. This was the second meeting between the diplomatic representatives of the two countries since the talks in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on February 18, 2025.
According to a spokesperson for the US State Department, political and security issues, including the situation in Ukraine, were not the subject of this meeting. Instead, the two sides discussed diplomatic personnel and visa issues. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said no one expected solutions to come quickly and easily.
This negotiation is part of both sides’ efforts to resume diplomatic relations and seek future cooperation solutions.
